When you can’t change the direction of the wind – adjust your sails.
~H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
If you’ve ever been on a sailboat, you probably understand the meaning of this quote from your experience. If you haven’t been on a sailboat, here is a very simple description.
When out on the water, wind provides power to move the sailboat. (Of course, most people know that part.) But, paying attention to the direction of the wind and adjusting your sails accordingly, is the key to getting from one point to another. If you ignore the wind, you could lose your momentum and stall out on the water or heel over from the strength of a gust.
The balance of the wind and sails together is what keeps the boat moving.
When you know that working with the wind is what gets you to your destination, you don’t stop to complain about the direction. Instead, you make adjustments and use the wind’s direction to move you closer to your destination.
This same principle applies to how we move forward with our lives. The only things we can change are those which we can control.
Pay attention to the wind’s direction in your life. But, don’t be a victim of its power, instead, make the adjustments necessary and use its direction to move you toward your goals.
The sad truth is; nothing’s perfect. Everyone has something to deal with in their lives. The people who succeed are those who adjust their sails and continue moving forward, no matter which way the wind is blowing.
The good news is; we can control our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Don’t let the circumstances in your life blow you off course. Harness your power and keep moving forward to your success. The sooner you learn how to sail to your goal, the quicker you’ll reach your destination.
